The Glory of Children?

October 27, 2010

Proverbs 17:6 (ESV) Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.

Reading today from the WLGBC reading plan in Proverbs 16 and 17 (you can follow along with the Live It! Blog)…and I got to Proverbs 17:6.  It’s easy to understand how grandchildren can be like a crown (of joy, glory, culmination) to their grandparents, but it’s the second half of the verse that makes me pause.

“…the glory of children is their fathers” could read “and what makes children proud is their parents.”

That’s a little harder.  I think we all want our children (if we have them) to be be proud of us, but that’s a little hard to focus on when we spend the whole morning arguing about who’s turn it is to take out the dog and what we want for breakfast.

Today I want them to be proud of me (us).
