1 Peter 1:10-13

February 14, 2010

10Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, 11trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 12It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

13Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

Encouraging message of hope this morning from Tiberius Rata.  His thoughts:  Are you discouraged?  Look back!  Remember that even the prophets were pointing towards the grace of God.  Look up!   The angels are peering into the lives of men to see the work of the Gospel.  Look forward!  Hope is coming in the return of Christ.

The whole idea of “hope” often seems so foreign.  Sometimes  its as if I place my hope in everything else besides the return of Christ and his promise to reconcile all things.   I hope a vacation comes soon.  I hope the weekend is relaxing.  I hope my kids behave.  Do I hope that the Lord returns today?  Great discussion in our small group tonight on all of this…with the challenge to long for the Lord’s return.  I wonder how this week will be different?
